Apparently I'm Boring

In the short time I've been blogging and in the short time I've been a parent I've found the two often share some similarities:
  • A happy healthy baby requires love, attention, and care.
    • The same goes for a blog.
  • A baby has demands that you must tend to in order to keep the little one happy.
    • The same applies for a blog.
  • As a baby grows, changes and develops so must the parent, adapting to the babies ever changing needs.
    • This is also true for a blog.
  • Every parent has an opinion on how a child should be raised.
    • Yep, you guessed it, this goes for bloggers and blogging.
A couple of days ago I was reading a blog post written by blogger "Jane"that left my feathers a bit ruffled. "Jane" posted what makes blogs bad, or what makes one lose interest in a blog. There were several points made, and I agreed with most of them. However, one point left me shaking my head. According to "Jane" (who does not have children at this time), too many baby pictures is a turn off.

"Jane" goes on to say that being a mom should not be the most interesting thing about you.
Well, apparently I am pretty boring.

I have to disagree with that particular point. Perhaps it is because "Jane" (who usually has me laughing at her stories, agreeing with her philosophies on life, and seems very sweet) does not have children, and has yet to experience how different life is and how priorities shift once a little enters the world.

I agree parents, especially moms, should have several things that make them unique. But, it is astonishing how interesting the most simple life tasks become when a baby enters the picture (a smile, a laugh, a step, a word, the list goes on and on).

"Jane's" post did mention that some blogs change their format drastically once a child is in the picture. Fashion or food blogs suddenly become baby blogs. I get that not everyone is on the baby train, (except it seems all my favorite blog buddies have recently gulped down a birth control-free kool-aid). But a blog is like every other aspect of life, it changes, it evolves, it morphs to fit the life the blogger is currently living.

To any of my readers who think I post too many Marcus posts...
TOUGH. :)

  2. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love this and you. Read that post and had the same thoughts. I adore the writing style of "Jane" but some of that was a bit harsh- especially since I am not a fan when people judge someone for something they have never themselves experienced.

Marcus Mondays are wonderful and so are you. You definitely aren't boring. You have your own things too outside of being "Mom". Keep on keepin on!

  3. I'm gonna need you to email me STAT what this "Jane" blog url is! I can't believe someone would say that at all. Being a mom is the MOST interesting thing about me, other than I have an extended tailbone. :) I also think it's weird that people have such foreign thoughts about a blog. Don't we all start them as an online journal for our kids to read someday? I sure as heck did. And as far as 'too' many pictures? I'm not sure I even know what that means {READ: I'll be dumping tons of Kansas City pictures later this week}.

  4. The main point of blogging is to write about what we want and love...My family is what I write about most of the time. I love sharing pictures and I love reading everyone else's posts about their life. We write about our life. In our case kids are our life among other things as well. Peeps need to deal with all of our "cute kid pictures" or not read!! Sorry, kinda silly that someone would write about blogger don'ts. Of you ask me writing about blogger don'ts is a don't in the first place!!! AND you are def not boring!!!

  5. She clearly doesn't know how adorable Marcus is. He's top notch adorable. And that's coming from someone who doesn't like babies/children. Lol.

  6. I love Marcus posts - he is part of you, part of your life - you write about your life, what is important to you - and it is clear that your family is #1 on the list. You are not boring by any means - heck, most of the blogs I read are autism blogs because, well, that's what I connect with - but you, you're a mom, a runner, a friend, and that is what I connect with too - so in an effort to not be too crass as I may sometimes be because you like "Jane" - screw her "don't" list - heck, I can only imagine what she would say about mine! LOL Much love!

  7. Love all the babyness! Life is irrevocably changed when you become mommy, you might as well accept the fact that EVERYTHING revolves around them, blogs too! If you lose a few readers who have yet to experience the joy of parenting fear not, you will only add twice as many mommies! Most importantly, I KNOW from reading your blog what a wonderful mommy you have become and that is the most important thing...EVER! Keep the pictures coming!

  8. I love the baby pictures. I love seeing them on other blogs and I love sharing mine! If that makes for a bad blog, then so be it! :-)

  9. As someone who does not have children, you're blog is not boring to me because you have a child. Most blogs I follow have children. If that's part of your life why not document it? People start blogs to document the important parts of their lives and obviously FAMILY is usually a huge part!

  10. it will certainly be interesting what her blog turns into if/when she has a child!

  11. That's ridiculous. The thing about blogging is that it's YOUR blog. You can post whatever you want. I figure if someone doesn't like pictures of Hayden they don't need to read my blog :)

I LOVE pictures of Marcus, he's too cute not to :)

  12. I would not blog if it weren't for the crazy person that parenting has made me become. It's made me into a new person and opened up an entirely new world, all of which I love to blog about and love reading about other's shared experiences. Can't wait for "Jane" to have kids and immediately put her foot into her mouth.

  13. Ha! I have no babies but I love kid pictures! A lot of the people I follow are moms which is kinda interesting considering I have no children. But I know that the day I bring a child in the world my pictures of food, outfits and drinks will be slim to none. Being on the baby pictures, haha.

  14. Amen! I read that and all I could think was, "what???"

  15. LOVE what you are saying here! It really makes no sense to me that, "being a mom" shouldn't be the most interesting thing about you. Why should motherhood be second to fashion or food?? I have felt this feeling that motherhood is not "as interesting" from other blogs as well and I find it rediculous. Of course who we are as people is important as well, but being a mother IS who I am ;)

  16. Wow! I can't believe someone would say that! Even I'm currently childless a person, I still love to read about kids and families. And I look forward to Marcus Monday every week!

I'm going to have to completely disagree with "Jane" and completely agree with you on this one. I love your blog! Please don't ever change it.

(Besides, we all know that if "Jane" ever has a kid, her blog will end up filled with pictures stories about that kid.)

  17. Well that's just sad. Maybe being a mom isn't the most interesting thing about me to *others*, but I'd venture a guess that it's by far the most important thing to the mom herself. And we should all write about what's important to us, so her opinion doesn't hold any water. And you're definitely not boring!

  18. Amen. If babies make a blog boring, I'm the most boring blogger ever. Babies change EVERYTHING. She'll be eating her words if she ever has a babe. And being a mom may not be interesting to anyone else, but it is definitely the most important and most amazing thing I've ever done in my life. You better believe I'll be blogging about it!

  19. Well that wont stop me from posting pics of my babes...and neither should you.

PS-You and your bad pics have been nominated.

  21. People blog for different reasons, and for many of us it's a way for us to journal our lives online. I don't get excited over beauty blogs or giveaway blogs, but show me some good food, travel destinations, or real life family stuff and I'm all over that. Imagine how boring we'd be if we were all THE SAME?

And who could resist all that blonde cuteness? You go momma.

  22. Oh poo on Jane. :) I have a baby blog that I write about my girls and my family, and that is my favorite blog to reread!

  23. I just echo everything that has been said! I'm still pretty new to blogging and finding my way but I blog about life and for me that includes my kiddo. I want to read about what other people are doing who are similar to me - so I follow mostly mom blogs! I love reading how moms balance/manage the mom stuff because we all do it differently and can learn from each other! If she ever has a kid she will want to retract that post! Keep posting about baby Marcus!

  24. I love your Marcus Mondays and Everyone is always going to have an opinion - keep doing what youre doing :) yours is one of my favorite daily reads :)

  25. I'll be boring with you! :)) Jane can shove it.

  26. So true! Plus my blog has always been about the girls---I just happen to write about their life since they can't type, but it's their blog! LOL ;-)

  27. count me in on the boring side :)

  28. I know which blog you are talking about and I agree...usually a funny blog and a lot of "jane's" points I could agree with but when it came to baby pictures she lost me. The reason I read someone's blogs is because I find them fun and interesting. Being a parent and sharing pictures of your children with me seems like a very big privilege that I was allowed to be part of. So as far as I am concerned bring on the Marcus pictures because Marcus Monday's make my week start off great!

  29. Ha, I typed in one big blog's URL and it referenced the blogger you are talking about. "Jane" sponsored me in the past, but probably wouldn't now that I am pregnant and about to pop out a child. Here is what I will tell you -

I was afraid I would lose all my readers when I announced I was pregnant. In the past 9 months, I have lost a ton of blogging friends and followers I had before. The funny thing is, they are a lot of people on 'Jane's' lists. The biggest chunk I lost were the heavy drinkers. I hate those blog and so I was totally fine to distance myself from them now that I am in a different phase of life. And even though my blog is morphing into more of a mommy blog I am totally ok with it!!! Because it has connected me with a ton of other mamas and moms-to-be. I have found so much encouragement and I love that community, so I'm ok if other 20-somethings think I am "boring" now because I like baby stuff...

By the way, we were brought together because of this exact reason!! (:

  30. When you become a mother everything changes! If you are anything like me! I never realized before I had Jacob that another life was now more important than mine. I never realized how much I could care for another living sole. I don't think anyone knows those feelings until you have a child. Blog all you want about your babies! Those who love to read about it will and those who want to criticize don't deserve to read it. :)
