I Did It Myself

Hair cuts are kind of... Traumatic... Around here. For Marcus, anyway.

You can read all about the fun we've had in our two previous barber trips here and here.
A few days ago I decided to forego all the barber hub-bub and just cut his hair myself. What's the worst that would happen? I'd save myself $20, and Marcus might have a lop-sided 'do for a few weeks. Eh, I could deal.

If I was going to be stressed about a stinking hair cut I wanted to be at home stressing. And, it's easier to, um, "restrain" your child in the comfort of your own home.
Oh my lanta, he really did need a hair cut!
Neither one of us really enjoyed the experience. Marcus screamed his head off the whole time, and I tried to work quickly while trying to avoid lopping off his ears.

I'd be lying if I told you I did research on cutting hair. I didn't look up any videos, follow any tutorials, how-tos, or step-by-steps. I just cut.
After about 15 minutes of cutting, snipping, praying for even bangs, and an outfit change...
Not too shabby, right?
Might as well go ahead and change my "title" from Full-Time Mom to Hair Stylist.

  6. You did an incredible job! You can definitely change your title. I really wonder what it is about haircuts that terrifies kids so much. I mean, I can understand the first time around, because here's this stranger coming at you with a sharp object and he/she is going to "cut" something and cuts hurt. But after the very first time, when you realize that cutting HAIR actually doesn't hurt at all, you would think everything would be peachy keen. Oh well. Kids. What more can you say?

  7. Very handsome!!! How did he get his big bump on his forehead?? :)

Oh, and his before reminds me of the doofy guy (not that Marcus is doofy, it's just the hair) on the 80's/90's show.... oh shoot!!! I can't remember the name of it now!!!! Was it Coach?? It had that tall guy who was the college football coach and the doofy guy was one of his assistants. Does this ring a bell at all??? I'll see if I can find a picture and email it to you later. Really cracks me up! :)

    Go Hawks! :)

  8. Looks Great! I do the same...I but Ben Josh and even Tim's hair...well of course Tim doesn't have much hair! :) I love the picture of blonde hair just sitting there. I agree...I have no idea why kids are so afraid of hair cuts? Why all the screaming??

  10. it looks adorable. my husband cuts my sons' hair but he uses the clipper, not scissors. I think that would be harder!

  14. Awesome job momma!! He looks adorable!!! I'm lucky enough that my boys are at the age where a buzz cut comes in handy. I've mastered the technique of fading them so that there is still a bit more on top. The girls - they need the pros.

  15. I think it looks great! I hate taking Brady to get his haircut, and he is 3. A couple times ago, he literally screamed the entire haircut. We tipped the lady 100 % of the cost of the haircut. It was good times...
