Four years ago I was lucky enough to discover traveling photographer, Sarah. It began with a session for Marcus', for his first birthday (it doesn't seem possible that photo session was four years ago!). From the moment I saw the images Sarah captured I knew I wanted her to become our family photographer. Fast forward to now... I reached out to Sarah to see if she would be in the area close to Julia's birthday. I was delighted when Sarah noted she would be in Los Angeles at the end of July. I didn't hesitate to book an hour with her at Griffith Observatory, nestled in the Hollywood hills. What I originally planned on being just a smash cake session for Julia's first birthday evolved into so much more.
I fully intend to use at least one of the family photos on our Christmas card (I'm already thinking that far ahead), so I won't share many of those. And, I'm saving the smash cake photos for another day, that deserves its own post (don't worry, there's totally a sneak peek). But the rest? The rest I simply have to share.
Pictures don't always go according to plan.
We're not all looking and smiling at the camera, but these photos do a pretty bang up job summarizing what our life often looks like.
A Little One on One.
Just the Big Boy.
A hearty chunk of the session was dedicated to Julia. I'm so glad Sarah snapped a few of just my main man. This picture encapsulates Marcus: serious, sweet, and smudged with dirt.
Everyone Wants Cake.
Julia held much of the spot light when it came to the cake. Marcus looked on with big, longing eyes, and may have even whispered, "Mommy, can I try some?"
Head Shots Are So Awkward.
I've wanted a professional head shot taken for quite some time. While Scott was cleaning up the kids I had a few solos captured. It is SO weird to just stand there alone and smile. Give me a kid!
That wraps it up for now. Julia's smash cake photos are on the horizon, stick around for those!
Cheers to the weekend!!
Awww! I love that these capture life as it is right now. There is no such thing as a perfect photo and that's okay because these are great. Julia's cry face kills me. Can't wait to see her smash cake photos.
