Running Thoughts

While you're reading this it's very likely I'm in a plane soaring over one of the fly-over-states. I'm beyond giddy to get back home - however, flying solo with a toddler is never at the top of my "fun list" (more on that tomorrow) - I'm also a bit nervous.

Most of the reason I'm headed home is to run the Hospital Hill Half Marathon. It's also a great excuse to  FINALLY meet up with some of my favorite blogging ladies, in real life, (Hi, Amie! Hi, Marcia!) for several a few pre and post race beverages.

It's going to be a grand old time. Except I'm a wee bit nervous I'm underprepared for the actual race itself. We've been really busy (vacation, guests, Disney, you've heard it a hundred times). And, while I tried my damnedest to get my runs in every night, sometimes it just.didn't.happen. The days that suffered the most were my short run days and my tempo/speed work days. Only once did I fail to run a prescribed long run.

This last weekend was my last long run before race day. Twelve miles. I'd mentally prepped for that run the entire week leading up to the run.

To my pleasant surprise, that 12 miles felt good. My pace was slower than normal, or what I would have liked. But the run itself was, dare I say, not difficult.
It could have been the crisp, cool, and appreciated ocean breeze, or views of the Pacific and Trump Golf Course. But whatever the case, my legs never wavered.
I sincerely hope taper week gives my legs the rest they need before tackling Hospital Hill. It's a tough race. A hill every mile, or so it seems. And as much as I'd like to say I'm hoping to PR, I think this race will be one for fun… At least this time around. And, I'm ok with that. The finish line is a sweet, sweet victory, regardless what time the clock may say.

If by chance Saturday morning (around 7AM central time) you happen to think about it, send some good running vibes my way.

One last thing before I run (see what I did there?), today is the last day to get entered to win the Chloe + Isabel studs.

  1. Yay for being back home!!! You missed the nasty nasty weather out your way last night, hope your folks didn't get any damage. The pics of what the hail did to some siding is outrageous! It was supposed to come out way but took a turn south just in time and missed us. Anyhoo, yay for being home! Will be thinking of you Saturday!!!
