Kingpin

While we love Kansas City, and hope to eventually make our move back, I sort of forgot about the weather, and how sporadic it can be. One day it's a beautiful sunny and 75, the next is 98 with humidity that is off the charts, and the following day you might experience thunderstorms.

For most of our time home we've experienced the latter of the summer weather patterns. It has rained more than it hasn't. Coming up with ideas to keep a 2-year old and his three cousins (ages 20 months, 5 years, and 9 years) entertained has proven to be a bit of a challenge.

The idea of bowling was tossed around and I wasn't too sure how Marcus would do. But, I thought what the heck, let's give it a shot. It beats being couped up in the house all day long.

After getting geared up with all the necessary *stuff* that goes with little ones and bowling we were good to go.
The selection of the bowling balls was a pretty big deal to the little guys.
The first few rolls were a little slow going. Neither the parents, or the boys, really knew what to expect.
But after a few frames we all settled in for some pretty riveting bowling.
Marcus absolutely loved tossing the ball down the lane. I'm not sure why we hadn't tried this recreational fun out before. Tossing a ball down a long lane, and encouraging him to knock down objects? Every little kids dream!
Near the end, each time Marcus would bowl, and knock pins down he would get so excited. We were receiving high fives, getting thumbs up, and hearing him exclaim, "Nice!!"
Thrilled - thumbs up, shouting, "Nice!"
We probably won't be considered a Kingpin any time soon, but we'll probably be spending a few more afternoons at the lanes.
Marcus and his cousin, Clark, tied, and older cousin Nick made away with a pretty good score.
If you're looking for something to do with little ones this summer, check out kidsbowlfree.com With the purchase of shoes, the kids were able to bowl two games for free!

  1. So funny, we recently tried out bowling and I thought the same thing! Why haven't we done this yet? Apart from struggling to keep Emma off the lanes to chase her ball, we had a blast! Doesn't hurt that they serve beer there. ;)

  2. That's a cute bowling slide! I've never seen one like that before. The only ones I have seen are the metal framed ones--boring! Glad the kids had fun, and based on the score board, it looks like they did great :-)

  3. You always try out the funnest things! This sounds great and perfectly timed info! Callie's old babysitter is coming for a visit and she used to bowl on a league -- totally adding bowling to our list of activities!!

  4. hahah, the dino ball slide thing...clever! I wouldn't have thought they'd have something like that, I assumed just bumpers...that looks so fun! I've been wanting to take Aria bowling but I''m definitely going to hold off just a little longer. 2 seems like it worked out for you!

  5. I can't remember whether we've talked about this before or not, but we're from KC too. LOVE it there. We live in Joplin now though :) So, same weather for us blah!

I'm pretty sure I know exactly where y'all went bowling :) I really really want to take Abigail sometime! I think she would love it!

  7. I have never seen that dragon looking contraption before, but how cool is that! If I knew of a place around us with one of those I would definitely take Myles! Do you know what it's called? Marcus got a higher score than my normal game! Love how excited he was!
