The Cutting Room Floor

A few weekends ago we had our family photos taken with high hopes that we could get that unicorn photo that makes its appearance on the yearly Christmas card.

Wrangling a 3-year old was a challenge in and of itself, but throw in a 3 month old... Whole. New. Ball game.

Might I also add, trying to love my body in its current postpartum state has been more difficult than I thought. With a little reinforcement from some fabulous blogging friends I was able to see the pictures (read: me in the photos) in a little different light (also read: not hate what I saw)

So, picking *the* photo for the card wasn't the easiest of tasks.

While I'm waiting to share the good ones I thought it only right to show a few of the, "There's no way in hell I'm putting that on a card," photos. Because, honestly, these are the ones that sum up our lives right now.

Onward!
I don't even know what's going on here. What are well all doing?!
During this particular moment in our shoot I looked like a crazed woman...
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
Tell me that doesn't scare you.

I really like this shot of Marcus and Scott. I just wish the sun wouldn't have caused such a squinty look.

This series I liked, but didn't love.
And this particular shot I wish would have been pulled back just a little bit. The top of Scott's head is cut off, and that really bothers me.
For being three months old Julia was good with the photos, until she wasn't.
Poor babe. By the last half of the shoot Julia really just wanted to eat and nap.
I feel you, lady. That's my idea of a great morning, too.
Julia needs a nap. Marcus needs.... To pee?
Yep, she's done.
I'm still waxing and waning over the photo(s) that will actually make the cut for the Christmas card. But, for now we'll just look at these and laugh at this particular stage of our little family's life.

  4. I think these photos are awesome!!! Right after Emma was discharged from the NICU we had our family photos done for Christmas cards. I remember looking at them after we got them back and crying because we looked like a hot mess. All 3 of us. LOL But now I look at them and laugh and am sooo glad we bought them because it shows what it was truly like to be a very new family of 3. I can't wait to see the photos you have chosen for your card =)

  6. Aww I love these! Thanks for sharing! Even though they didn't make the Christmas card, it is totally a good depiction of your life right now so that makes them perfect. That one of the kids and you is so cute... minus the crying I guess, but again, real life :) I love them!

  9. I love these! As imperfect as they are, I think they are all great! And, lady, you look fabulous! I know we're all our own biggest critics, but you seriously don't look like you had a baby just three short months ago!

  10. Outtakes sometimes make you wonder what the heck we were doing in that moment, but years from now you'll look back and smile and your families season of life. Adorable family photos, can't wait to see the rest.

  14. I have to say I like these too because theyre candid and real. The missing top of Scott's head is like the biggest bummer because arent photographers NOT supposed to do that?! Lol. You look gorgeous and Im so excited to see the finished product!

  17. If these are the outtakes I cannot wait to see the others! These are gorgeous. Loving where you chose to take the pictures! And Marcus' red stripes go perfectly with the backdrop. Pretty obsessed over here.

  18. Okay, some of these are funny (peeing and Scott's head cut off...what?), but they are beautiful pictures! I can't wait to see which one you picked!! And I think I am stealing your outfit idea because Louise's is identical to Julia's!! We are taking some on Saturday, and Cameron has already said that he isn't smiling....awesome.

  19. Even if they don't make the "card cut" they really are great. That's life! You'll look back and love those one day. That's the great thing about photos. They can bring you right back.
