Lopped the Little Man's Locks Off

For some time now Scott and I have been debating whether or not Marcus needed a haircut. It was blatantly obvious he did, but I don't think either one of us was ready to admit our little man was "old enough" to have his locks lopped off.

This weekend we decided it was time. Scott wanted to find just the right barber. I just wanted someone who would do it. If I dilly-dallied long enough finding the "right" person I knew I'd back out. Like ripping off a band-aid, I knew we just needed to do it.

To the hair salon we went.
The before shot. Look at that shaggy mop.
We tried to bribe him with snacks. Yes, we went there.
Just as I suspected, the whole experience was a hot mess. Marcus didn't want to sit still. The sound of several hair dryers kept drawing his attention, lots of fussing and whining, and every time the stylist went to cut his hair he'd jerk around. Nothing less than what I'd expected.
Obviously thrilled.
There are a few spots that still need a little work (around his ears especially). When you have sharp scissors in one hand and wrestling with equivalent of a sack of snakes with the other hand, there's only so much you can do before you throw in the towel and call it good.
After it was all done I was scrambling around the chair trying to scoop up and save as many little hair locks as possible. I didn't shed any tears like I thought I would, but I'm sure seeing me saving tiny little pieces of blond hair was a bit of a spectacle.
Just like that it feels like our baby grew up in a matter of minutes, and right before our eyes.
So fresh and so clean.
He looks like a little boy and not a baby. I'm still trying to adjust.

  1. oooh!! how sweet does he look?! certainly not a baby any more. dont worry, Marissa's first hair cut went the same way! and we only trimmed the bangs and took off the baby curls in the back! she bawls every single time we cut it! (yes, my bald baby girl has had more then one hair cut!)

  3. He looks so unbelievably cute! We took my nephew for his first haircut last week and he did sit still. However, his grandpa (my dad) was the barber so he didn't pay him any mind when he was cutting his hair. I imagine if we took him to a salon with someone he didn't know he'd wouldn't have been as cooperative.

  4. Sometimes I feel like his hair and his haircut is identical to Drew's. Those last two bottom pictures look SO much like Drew's! I LOVE the one where it's really wet and combed over. He looks so freaking dapper! :)

  6. He looks adorable! He may have big boy hair but those are still baby cheeks to me!

BTW, haircuts don’t get better. They haven’t for us anyways.

  7. Cute! Luckily I had girls so I didn't start cutting their hair until they were a little older---around 20 months I think. I cut it myself and always sit them in front of their favorite tv show with a sucker. Works like a charm! :-)

  8. So cute! It's crazy how much a hair cut can change their looks. We haven't had to cut Lorelai's hair yet, but that first haircut for each of the boys was so bittersweet.

  11. Aww, so cute!! It was hard for us to get Jackson's haircut too. We're just not ready for our little boys to grow up so quickly, or ever for that matter. :-)

  20. It's amazing how a haircut can make them look so much older instantly. I still carry a piece of Henry's hair from his first haircut in an envelope in my wallet. I don't know why those first locks are so important, but they are!

  21. Behind on my blog reading, but just read this. ADORABLE!!!!!!!!! Good job for not crying, Momma! And glad you saved some!!!! I was pregnant with Jamie when Kayla got her 1st hair cut (ya get to wait a little longer with girls). My mother-in-law has her license so she cut it. But my pregnancy brain didn't remind me to save any. I was at work when Jamie's 1st got cut & didn't know it happened until I got home & Kayla told me......
