These Are My Confessions

Anyone else now have that Usher song stuck in their head?
Bueller...
Bueller...
Nope? Just me? Umm, 'kay.

Moving along.

It's been a second since I've done a little confessing, so I thought now would be as good a time as any to get a few things off my chest.

Here goes...

1. Marcus is in the phase of asking, "Why?" All. The. Time. I love his curiosity. But, holy hell, it's exhausting. I quickly learned that if I give really long, detailed, over-his-head explanations of things he'll just say, "Oh, ok." And he will forget to ask another, "Why?" for at least five minutes.
2. We're slowly introducing Julia to 'solid' foods. Rice cereal is on the menu, and I just kind of feed it to her when ever I remember to make it. I've waited much longer with Julia than I did with Marcus to begin this process. Feeding two kids real meals means more work, and right now just getting a plate in front of Marcus can be a chore. Julia might be two before she has any other real food. I'm kidding. Sort of.
3. Grocery carts. Can people just put those back in the cart returns? It drives me BONKERS when carts are all over a parking lot.

4. I'll be the first to admit I'm no grammar guru, but my eyes basically bleed when people don't know how to properly use 'to,' 'too,' and 'two.' This is basic stuff, people. BASIC. (If you're unsure how to use the correct form of each word head here for a quick grammar lesson.) I also have a hard time reading the incorrect forms of 'their,' 'there,' and 'they're,' and 'your,' and 'you're.' Don't even get me started on when people mispronounce supposedly (there's no "V" in that word!), or wash (there's no "R" in that word!).

5. Twitter. It's not my favorite social media outlet, and I don't really understand why so many people love it so much. I'll take the 'Gram (desireemacke) or Snapchat (desireemacke) over Twitter any day.
6. Scott's been gone for a few days due to work obligations. To keep my sanity in tact I've been putting the kids to bed 30-45 minutes earlier than normal. Good thing they don't know how to tell time.
7. Though Scott is gone, and I miss him terribly, I love that I have free reign over the remote at night. We have differing opinions on 'good' television shows. Give me all the Bachelor (guiltiest pleasure of them all!), give me all the Making a Murderer (I just couldn't get Scott into the show), give me all the Chicago Fire.

8. I love Disneyland so much more than my kids (at least more than Marcus, Julia really has no idea what's going on), and I'm ok with that. I still squeal with delight when we see Mickey. Marcus is pretty much over it all, and basically just goes to Disney for the Mickey Mouse ice cream bars.

Phew. There you have it, my confessions.

What are your confessions?

  3. YES to the shopping carts. My BF's 8 year old doesn't ask "why" so much as "where is daddy?" about 32 times a day. Mind you, I don't live in a gigantic house so most likely he is either in the bathroom or in the bedroom.

  4. Chicago Fire this week.... ANXIETY ATTACK!!!!!

  5. YES!!! I love this! My gosh, YES to the grocery carts! COME ON people!!! I swear sometimes people go OUT of the way to not put it in the right place.
Mason hasn't started asking why yet but I LOVE your way around it! I'll have to remember that!
I literally LOL'ed when you said good thing the kids don't know how to tell time!!! Haha. Love it!
    The grammar!!! SO annoying!
And Twitter??? NOPE. I have it but don't know how to use it and honestly don't really care to. Seth is like ALL about Twitter though, I don't get it. He gets his sports news off there or something. No clue. LOVE me some IG and snapchat though!
And YAY for free reign over the remote! Bachelor and Making a Murderer all the way!

  6. I so agree on the Twitter thing. I've tried it and still have an account, but I rarely ever get on it. I just don't like it. And give me all of the Bachelor and Chicago Fire (and PD, and Med) TWO. Just kidding, TOO. haha. I had to.

  7. #4. Absolutely. Also, I had a friend who.solved the "why" with her son bybtelling him that "That's the way Jesus wants it." Boom. Done. And hilarious!

  8. We're getting "Why?" all the time now, too! We were giving serious explanations for quite a while, but when Mila is asks why the plate she wants is in the dishwasher for the 10th time, we've resorted to "Just because." Oddly enough, it works.

YES to the carts! I will never understand why it's so difficult to return them to their proper spots.

I'm with you on the grammar, spelling, and pronunciations. Drives me up the wall.

  9. We are in that "why" phase too and it's absolutely exhausting! It just never ends and there are so many questions. When he runs out of why questions (after a million of them), he moves right on to "what's that mean?" Also, I totally did the same thing with Mim and solid food. Just the thought of feeding two kids two separate meals at two separate times, in addition to the grownup meal, was just too exhausting to deal with (see how many times I used two/too/to in that sentence and they're all correct...including the they're I just threw in). ;) Smug grammar nazi.

  10. #6 though, yes!!! My husband works until 8 or 9 pm at least once a week, and once that clock hits 7 it's bedtime for the toddler, haha.

  11. We have WHYS all over our house all the time. Oh so tiring, but they're learning so much. I'm with ya on loving IG and Snapchat. I wish they both weren't blocked on school wifi. Not that I need to have access to them all day, but a quick check during a break is nice!

  12. The why phase is the WORST. And you don't want to yell at them to shut up... But you REALLY WANT TO YELL AT THEM TO SHUT UP. And we obvi need a disney date together. Once k gets her act together of course (which will be never).

  13. It's like you read my mind! The questions, carts and Twitter. Just don't get it. Ahh!! Love the sleeping pictures of your sweet babies!

  14. 1) I've been treating the office with my riveting rendition -- my jam!
    2) I have no idea what snapchat or Persiscope are, so I should probably go crawl back into my cave...

  15. Ugh! My son is in the "why" stage too! I am laughing over here. I have to say you are a GENIUS though... I am going to start giving super long answers from now on, hahaha!

  16. I confess I did sing the Usher song.

Meeghan is asking why all the time, and she never stops talking. All day today, she was right there next to me asking questions about everything. I know it is how they learn, but I was at the end of my rope by dinner time.

  17. Grammar, yessss! It kills me when I read blogs that misspell things, I mean spellcheck is part of the editing process for a reason! (And then I misspell something easy, karma...lol)

  18. Connor talks 24-7... well that's not true! He doesn't talk when he is sleeping but hand to God, he never stops. I have to tell him to see how long he can be quiet, it usually gives me 45 seconds of silence in between questions.

  19. Ugh, Tate is all 'whats dat?' non-freakin-stop!!! I'm happy he's learning new words and all but seriously kid!

The grammar thing constantly gets me! And it annoys me even more on FB on those memes everyone's always posting and sharing. I refuse to share anything that has the wrong use of 'there/'re/ier' in it!!! But I find myself getting fuzzier on spelling words correctly the longer I'm a SAHM. I used to pride myself on how well I could spell and now I'm always second guessing myself.

  20. I don't get twitter either. Like, not even a little. Tried it. It didn't work out. I'll be over on IG lol.

A is 5 and the "why's" still haven't stopped. Not even a little. So. Pass the wine.

  21. I too share your grammar annoyance. Mostly it drives me crazy reading comments on the internet & even Facebook occasionally(I find that so sad, especially since most my FB friends I met in college & are supposed to be educated. At least enough to know the difference in which correct word to use when typing!) I don't get Twitter either, I 'talk' too much & 180 characters or whatever their tiny character limit is, is not enough for me not to have to butcher every word I want to use. Don't get me wrong though, I do have an account on Twitter but not for the use of communicating with people really. I feel I was basically 'forced' to get an account to continue entering online blog giveaways, so many people use Twitter follows as a large chunk of the entries for their giveaways. Occasionally I'll use it to throw out a rant or 2 that I don't see necessary to clog up FB feeds with & that's about it.

Now that that's all out of the way on to other things, lol. Good luck with Marcus and his why phase. You seem to have come up with a fairly good way to limit the amounts of questions you get in a given time frame & I'm sure Julia will get to the solid foods all in good time- I have faith that you'll make it happen all before 2, your pediatrician will see to that I'm sure ;) Not that I have kids, but I read plenty of blogs that are 'mommy blogs' so I know those doctors are out there to keep those mommies on track. Love the sleeping pictures of Marcus & Julia, both so cute! Marcus has the most adorable little lips. Looking back on that, I totally didn't mean it as creepy as it looks/sounds. There is no way to talk myself out of that sounding creepy/weird, I tried & it just made it sound worse so I had to erase it & take it back. Keep loving on those babes of yours & continue to enjoy your remote controlling powers while Scott is away with work. I'm sure you'll miss having those tv powers when he gets back home but you'll also won't be missing him anymore so hopefully one emotion outweighs the other!
Hope you all have a good weekend together! <3

  22. I've been using the line "because that's just the way God made it" a LOT lately. For some reason that usually puts an end to the whys for a few minutes. And seriously, feeding two kids three meals a day is no joke! Sometimes I feel more like a short-order cook than a mom. So yes, stick with the baby food as long as possible :) And poor grammar on social media just kills me!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Usher!!! Now I want to go listen to all his songs, music videos included! And I too hate Twitter. There is just too much social media, and Instagram already sucks all my time!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I missed this post, and oh my gosh, I'm with you on so many of these! Shopping carts- ugh. SO one of my biggest pet peeves. Especially when I catch someone doing it. I want to say something, but at the same time, who knows what they'll do, so I hold off. And grammar issues- yes! Another one is when people say 'I seen that'. You'd think people didn't learn anything in school. Totally with you on Twitter too. I much prefer IG or snapchat. I totally put Reese to bed earlier when Scott isn't home too :)
