Silence

As I write this I am lying in my bed. It's 2:41 in the afternoon and both my children are napping - it's a Christmas miracle. I know I should probably close my eyes, too. I mean these nights not much sleep is actually happening for any of us. But as tired as I am I can't quite let myself doze...

It's quiet.

For the first time since 5:12 a.m. the only sound I hear is the soft whirrrrr of the fan. It's almost as if I'm not quite sure what to do with myself and this peaceful quiet.

You see, quiet doesn't happen much anymore. And I'm forever grateful for the sounds that fill my home and heart.

But for right now I'm going to wrap myself up in this silence and enjoy not being needed. Even if it is just for a few minutes. Maybe I'll even shut my eyes for a little bit...

And just like that she's up.

Perhaps tomorrow naps will happen for all of us.

Until then, let the sweet noise of my life commence.

  1. It's the best noise you could ask for thought, right? I love this sweet photo of the babies. Yes babies because Marcus (like Connor) will always be a baby to me. Hopefully you'll get to nap this afternoon.

  2. Oh I love this :) I know my life is about to get a whole lot busier and nosier and if I'm being honest I'm super scared of that. I love the silence, but I usually can't take the much needed nap anyway. It really is the best kind of noise :)

  4. Silence doesn't happen much in my house either. I act like it bothers me, but the sound of giggles, squeals, cries for me, and the pitter patter of little feet is something I want to never take or granted. Plus silence usually means something is happening that shouldn't be, like my son finding the markers. Ha ha!

  5. Silence....it's rare in our house, too! When I get to drive alone, I often times don't even listen to the radio because I love the sound of nothing. :) haha!

  6. :) This post makes me smile lady. A few years ahead of you and it is rarely quiet here too.... someday we're going to miss the noise.

  7. Ahhh yes, silence... what is that again? ;) Enjoy those overlapping naps, mine ended too soon in my opinion lol. But noise and quiet alike, they fill our house with the sounds of life and I wouldnt have it any other way.

  8. Oh I can relate! We barely have that here, but agreed, wouldn't have it any other way!

  9. Unfortunately the days of silence will be there all too soon and you'll long for the noise and commotion. Since school has started we have really noticed a change in Aiden - he's more mature, not as wild and crazy, more quiet and peaceful. It's a change I have been surprised by. That and how he chooses to watch Sports Center over cartoons now. :) I'm so glad another baby is joining out crazy household - i get that much longer of having the noise. :)

  10. Ain't that the truth! From the moment you have one baby, you forget what silence is like. I can only imagine what it's like at your house. When Mason is at his ABA therapy on Saturdays, Seth and I don't know what to do with ourselves, when it's so quiet and lonely. We miss the hustle and bustle and the noise of the crazy kid running around!
