Julia's Room

This room has been a work in progress for months. But, it is finally complete.

The room's main inspiration came from the butterfly mobile (shown below). While I'm head over heels for all the things that flutter, I tried to really keep the butterflies from getting out of hand. Julia's room is quite small (second child problems), and I knew it wouldn't take much for too many butterflies to feel overwhelming.

Along with the butterflies I knew I didn't want the room to be too matchy-matchy. And, I wanted colors of cream, gold, and pops of pink. I think I managed to pull off what I had in mind.

Now, without further adieu, Julia's nursery...
Entering the room this gorgeous wreath hangs on the door.
My sister-in-law works in Labor and Delivery unit in Kansas City, and these wreaths are all the rage at the hospital she works. New moms have these hanging on their hospital doors. My sister-in-law sent this out to us to be hung at the hospital, on our door, when Julia was born. When we came home I thought it only fitting to hang on Julia's door.
Because we kept Julia's name under wraps until she was born the M on the wreath naturally stands for Macke.
We used Marcus' nursery furniture for Julia as well. While I love the rich brown wood I can't say I love the color of the rocking chair upholstery. Of course this particular model is discontinued so I couldn't get replacement cushions in the color I was hoping for (oatmeal). So, chocolate brown the upholstery stayed (again, second child problems).

A bit of a closer look at the details:
Bow detail on the curtain   //   Curtain rod   //   Curtain tie back
Details on and around the dresser.
I changed out the original dresser knobs - which were wooden knobs - with crystal knobs.
A closer look at the crib and rug.
Just the right spot to hang all. the. bows.
Side note: This room was so difficult to photograph. The lighting, no matter the time of day was never quite like I wanted it, and the walls all kind of gave off a different hue, depending on where I stood in the room.
A little bit vintage, a little bit shabby, a little bit chic, a little bit girly, and a whole lot of love put forth to make it all come together.

  13. Such a beautiful space, Desiree. We have the same crib too hehe. Have you thought about DIYing the rocker upholstery? I've never done it but I know I've seen Pinterest pins about how to do it (though that seems totally ambitious with a newborn) L-O-V-E-L-Y.
